My Best Self-Care Tips for Depression (Introduction)

Are you looking for tips for coping with depression? Or for helping someone who is depressed? Then you are at the right place. In this blog post series, I will be sharing self-care tips that I use for getting through depression. These are tips for my African brothers and sisters struggling with depression or looking for ways of improving their mental health.

While getting professional help is a good idea, especially if your condition is severe. Self-care steps can help you cope with depression and can improve and protect your mental health. If you choose to ignore your symptoms your condition would only get worse.

In Africa, about 29.19 million people (9% of 322 million) suffer from depression, with over 7 million in Nigeria (3.9% of 322 million). So if you thought you were alone, well, now you know millions are struggling like you. Battling depression can be difficult, and believe me, I know what it feels like. But knowing that there is treatment and you can get better, gives you hope.

As much as the number of people that suffer from depression is high, many people with depression don’t get help for their symptoms. This could be due to the myths and misconceptions about mental illness in African societies or other personal reasons.

The African society doesn’t have many opportunities for people with mental illness to get adequate help. It is really difficult and painful to be going through a tough mental health situation, and thinking that you probably can’t get help from around you, may seem like a cross to carry alone.

In this blog post series, you’ll learn some tips to help you through your struggle and reassure you that you can get better. These tips may not cost you money, but time and enough, and it’s worth it because your well-being matters a lot. This series would also help you if you are looking for ways to improve your mental health and the mental health of your loved ones.

With dedication and motivation, you can achieve great things for yourself. Remember you can always share your experience and progress in the comment section. If you’ve been working on getting better alone, now you are not alone. Sharing your progress can also motivate others. Be free to share your feelings and thoughts.

Remember the best time to start something is now, you don’t need to wait until tomorrow to prioritize your mental health. It may be difficult at first, but with step-by-step progress, you can achieve your desired mental health goals.
